If you’re moving and can’t take your Peloton bike with you, don’t worry! You can easily disassemble the bike and reassemble it in your new home. It takes only a few minutes, and you won’t have to worry about renting a truck to move your bike.
In this guide, BSXInsight will show you how to move a peloton bike step-by-step.
What Is A Peloton Bike?
If you’re reading this guide, you’re already familiar with the Peloton Bike. For those who don’t know, the Peloton Bike is a high-end indoor bicycle with a Wi-Fi-enabled, 21.5-inch touchscreen tablet. This allows you to stream live and on-demand classes, compete with other riders on a live leaderboard and get a great cardio workout.
The most popular on-demand classes have tens of thousands of rides completed; special live rides have been known to pull in more than 20,000 riders at one time. The pandemic fueled the demand even further, provoking a swell in sales in 2023 that handed the company its first quarterly profit. That popularity and profitability have since dipped.
The original idea for Peloton was to bring the boutique indoor-cycling experience into the home, making it convenient for busy professionals, stay-at-home parents, far-flung suburbanites, and even the president of the United States to get in a challenging, competitive, high-tech pedaling session whenever they like. The brand also offers off-the-bike exercise classes such as running, yoga, strength training, bootcamp, and meditation.
Now let’s take a look at some tips to follow before moving. Let’s get started.
How Much Does A Peloton Weigh?
Pelotons can be pretty heavy exercise bikes. They weigh between 135 and 140 pounds, depending on which model they are. The flywheel can alone weigh as much as 40 pounds.
The footprint of a Peloton is 4 feet by 2ft. This is a good amount of weight for afoot.
The bike’s weight and size provide the stability you need during challenging rides. Your bike will not move if you push yourself beyond your limits during your workout.
These bikes are heavy and can be challenging to transport to another location. Because they are pretty severe, likely, you won’t be able to lift or carry your Peloton bike by yourself.
It doesn’t matter if you are moving the exercise bike to another moving blanket. These Peloton bikes are equipped with wheels to make them easy to transport.
Is It Easy To Transport A Peloton?
Although transporting a peloton can be done quickly, you’ll need at least one person to assist. The disassembly of your bike also transporting it can be the most difficult.
I recommend that you set the handlebars and seat of your bike to the lowest position before moving it. Also, make sure that all adjustment levers are tightened.
Also, I recommend that you get rid of all delicate accessories. These are:
- Water bottle holder
- Weight holder
Once these parts have been removed (details below) and the bike seat and handlebars of your bike have been lowered, you can move them!
You are tying it down with ratchet straps to prevent your bike from moving around.
You can also hire movers to transport your Peloton from its current location. Moving companies offer liability insurance to protect your investment in the event of damage during the move.
Are You Able To Move The Peloton Bike With Just One Hand?
Yes, and no. Yes and no. If you plan to move the bike upstairs or downstairs, you will need other hands. The small wheels at its front, also known as the transport wheels or the wheels for moving it around on uneven ground, can be handy.
It would help if you always communicated with each other when you added another person to the bike moving process. For the safety of your bike, be patient and kind to each other.
The video below will show you how to maneuver your bike on flat ground.
What Are The Things You Should Do Before Moving Your Bike?
The touchscreen must be removed when moving the bike around from one place to the next. The touchscreen is the most fragile part of the bike and should be removed whenever the motorcycle is being moved. It is easy to remove and reinstall the screen.
Second, take everything that can be moved off the bike. This includes bicycle shoes. Most people like to remove them with seat clamps, weights, and bottles. This prevents items from falling off the bike, which can cause injury, destruction, or distraction during transit.
Thirdly, the pedals must be removed if the bike is moving a truck or other vehicles. The pedals can be solid, but they are susceptible to breaking if the bike is dropped.
When moving long distances, make sure to tighten all the nuts. It is possible to lower position the handlebars and bike seats to make them more durable and robust.
How To Move Intact Peloton Accessories
Move a Peloton Bike Screen
First, disconnect the power cable (located at the rear of the screen) from the screen. Wait! Turn off the main power supply before you unplug the monitor cable. You should do this to turn off the power supply for safety reasons.
Next, take off the plastic covers on the peloton screen. You can do this by pulling the screen without any tools. Next, use an Allen key (Note: Allen Key for Bike Plus and a Philips head screwdriver for old peloton bike) and gently undo the screen.
As soon as the bolts have come loose, hold on to the screen to stop it from falling while obliterating the bolts from the bike.
The most important thing is to place the screen face down on a stable surface. This position prevents the screen from falling, and the soft towel or bubble wrap keeps it from getting smashed on a cold surface. It is expensive to damage or equipment failure what you have already.
These two videos may help you. One is for bike plus, and the other is for the previous.
Remove The Pedals
When performing this operation, ensure that the resistance knob has been completely turned off. This will stop the resistance knob from activating the pedals.
To loosen the pedals for the Peloton bike, you will need a 15mm wrench. The left pedal has a reverse installation. Therefore, you will need to loosen it clockwise. The right pedal can be unscrewed in a clockwise direction.
For more instructions to remove pedals, see this guide: How To Remove Bike Pedals?
Remove The Water Bottle Holder And Dumbbell Holder
Although it is not essential, you might want to remove water bottles and weights from the bike when moving it over long distances.
You can see the bolts holding the bottle holder on both sides of your frame. To loosen the bolts faster, use an Allen key and possibly a spanner. To safely remove the bottle holder, hold on to it by holding it down.
Next, you can use the same Allen key again to remove the dumbbell holder. You can also use a Phillips screwdriver as an alternative. The screws on dumbbell holders can be seen clearly, just like the water bottle.
Transferring The Peloton Bike From One Gym To Another
Moving the peloton bike around from one room to another, from one house to the next, or within the same area is much easier. Even easier is the task of moving the bike on level ground. You only need to take off the touchscreen in this case, and you’re good to go.
The clamp should hold the bike at the rear. Next, lift it using its front transport wheels. Move the bike to where you want. You should move slowly and avoid any bumps, walls, corners, or other obstacles that could cause damage to the bike.
After moving the bike into a new position, the touchscreen can be reinstalled immediately. The touchscreen is usually safer and easier to reinstall when the bike is ready.
Can A Peloton Be Put On Its Side?
You can place a Peloton sideways, but only after removing the delicate parts (the touchscreen, pedals, and water bottle holders are all delicate).
You will most likely damage the parts of your bike if you place it on its side.
The touch screen, for example, is fragile and prone to being damaged. With the screen attached, the entire weight of your Peloton will rest on the screen and most likely cause it to crack.
This is true for bottle-holders, weight holders, and other parts. These parts are much more fragile than the bike’s solid metal frame.
Is It Possible To Fit A Peloton In An SUV?
Yes, you can fit a Peloton into an SUV. The dimensions of a Peloton are 4×2 feet. SUVs can hold up to 144 cubic yards. Your SUV will be able to fit your Peloton bike with ease due to its oversized cargo area.
The cargo space in your car will determine whether the bike can fit into your moving vehicle.
Transporting The Peloton Bike With Truck
This is where a truck or transit vehicle can be used. You will also need to hire an additional person to assist you in the move.
The bike is now ready to go once you have removed the touchscreen, the water bottle with its holder, weight holders, and the pedals.
The transport wheels can be used to move the bike. Hold it at the back of the seat post, and then lift it by the transport wheels. You can then direct the cycle by yourself until it reaches where you require assistance, such as the door.
You will have your partner hold the bike by its handlebars while you hold it at the rear. If necessary, you can also lift the gym equipment together. It would help if you were careful lifting the bike onto the truck.
Use strong straps to secure the bike to its four sides once it is loaded onto the truck. These straps are used to prevent the cycle from falling during transit.
Once you have reached your destination, you can unclip the bike and move it from the truck to your home. To ease the transition, make sure you return all accessories you have taken.
Getting To Your Destination
Congratulations on making it this far, and your Peloton is still in good condition. Just make sure to take the same care when unloading your bike.
It is possible to just as easily damage something by removing the bike from your car and putting it in its new home.
Do not panic if your Peloton won’t start after reassembling it. It’s pretty standard for this to happen.
Is A Peloton Moved Without Voiding The Warranty?
Peloton warranties will not cover any damage to your Peloton if you move it yourself.
This includes disassembling and reassembling all parts. Technically, only authorized Service Techs from Peloton are allowed to work on your bike within the warranty period.
You release Peloton of all responsibility once you have started this moving process.
